Newcastle and Manchester United close an exciting Premier League Saturday schedule with the evening kickoff in Matchday No 14 on December 2.

The match takes place exactly a month after Newcastle’s demolishing 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in the last 16 round of the League Cup.

It was their second straight clean-sheet win over the Red Devils who came out victorious just once in the last five encounters with the Magpies.

Interestingly, none of the previous four head-to-head affairs between these rivals produced goals at both ends. Are we in for another low-scoring clash?

When you look at the Premier League table, you have to be surprised to see Manchester United sitting one point above Newcastle going into this tie.

The media have criticized the Red Devils a lot since the beginning of the season (you would say for a good reason) and Erik ten Hag’s men have suffered some tough and unexpected defeats in the process as well.

Nonetheless, Manchester United took advantage of the somewhat easier schedule to claim five wins in the previous six Premier League outings and climb to 6th place in the league standings, being six points adrift of leaders Arsenal at the moment.

That said, the Red Devils got very lucky to keep three subsequent clean sheets in the Premier League, especially last weekend when they dispatched Everton 3-0 away at Goodison.

Newcastle are a force at St. James’ Park where they have notched 18 goals since the start of the season. Although injuries have derailed their squad in the last month, the Magpies should have enough to see off Manchester United on Saturday.

In the absence of Callum Wilson (out through injury), Alexander Isak stands out as a strong candidate for the anytime goalscorer pick. The Swede is tied with Wilson at the top of the team’s scoring charts, he takes penalties, and he should have a lot of room to exploit Man United’s defensive holes on Saturday.
